Lions CB Savian Smith appeared to suffer a serious neck injury during a match against the Patriots on Sunday. Smith, 24, fell down at the start of the first quarter after colliding with New England tee Hunter Henry.
Detroit’s medical staff immobilized him for several minutes before placing him on the back board. An ambulance was brought to the field to take Smith to a local hospital.
As he was taken to the ambulance, Smith’s Lions teammates gathered around him. According to Fox’s broadcast, a relative of Smith was allowed to leave the stand and enter the ambulance with Smith.
Detroit announced that Smith had been taken to a local hospital to be tested for a neck injury.
