Rutgers wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood will miss Saturday’s Homecoming game against No. 11 Michigan State due to COVID-19 protocol.
Rutgers assistant to miss Michigan State game due to COVID protocol
No other details were provided. Underwood’s absence could be triggered by several things – a case of the virus, waiting periods for a confirmed positive test, and contact tracing, among other possibilities. The university mandates all students to be vaccinated for medical and religious reasons with limited exemptions, but it does not have a staff mandate for vaccination.
Offensive assistant Andrew DiRianzo works with receivers, so he is a likely candidate to take over the poksition group in Underwood’s absence.
Underwood, 34, is in his second season as the Scarlet Knights’ receiver coach. The North Brunswick native and Notre Dame High product was a star wideout in the recent days of Greg Schiano’s first stint at Rutgers before a nine-year professional career in the NFL and CFL. Underwood was Lafayette’s wideout coach in 2018 and then a quality control coach for the Miami Dolphins in 2019 before joining Schiano’s staff.
The coach inspires us every day,” star receiver Bo Melton told NJ Advance Media at training camp. “It gives us a chance to go out and be a better player. You can see everyone’s game has risen in the last one year.
