Russell Wilson: Injury diagnosis| Will play this weekend| Is hurt
Wilson began his undergraduate career at NC State, where he played football and baseball from 2008 to 2010, before moving to Wisconsin in 2011, where he established the single-season FBS record for passing efficiency (191.8) and led the Badgers to a Big Ten title and the 2012 Rose Bowl.
Injury diagnosis
Wilson hurt his finger in the Seahawks’ 26-17 loss to the Rams on Thursday night. His finger has a “extensor tendon rupture (mallet finger) and a comminuted fracture-dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal joint,” according to NFL.com.
Wilson required surgery because the injury prevented him from straightening out his finger, making it difficult to toss the ball.
Wilson shared a photo of himself after surgery on Friday night, and he probably wouldn’t have done so unless he thought things went well.
Will play this weekend
While Russell Wilson is presently out due to a finger injury, his future with the Seahawks beyond 2021 seems uncertain at best.
The passer and the team were surrounded by turmoil and speculations during the offseason, but both parties eventually made up and decided to give it another shot in 2021. While the club hasn’t quite reached the heights it achieved when it won Super Bowl 48, they’ve been perennial contenders more often than not with Wilson at the helm.
Is hurt
Wilson recently underwent surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his throwing hand’s middle finger, which he suffered in Seattle’s Week 5 loss to the Rams. A six-week healing plan is usual for this ailment. Carson has been battling with a neck issue, thus he was unable to play in Seattle’s game versus Los Angeles. During the Seahawks’ first three games, Carson rushed for 232 yards and three touchdowns.
With Wilson out, the Seahawks will go with Geno Smith at quarterback, who went 10 of 17 for 131 yards, a score, and an interception against the Rams. Smith, a nine-year veteran who has previously played for the Jets and Chargers, has a career record of 12-19 as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
