The 2022 Rugby League World Cup, known as the 2021 Rugby League World Cup due to its postponement from its original schedule last year, will run from 15 October to 19 November 2022 in England.
Draw
The men’s tournament will see a venue swap on the first day (15 October) with the match between Australia and Fiji now taking place at Headingley Stadium, Leeds, due to a conflict with another event in Hull. . In turn, the MKM Stadium, Hull will now host New Zealand vs Jamaica in Group C on 22 October β a fixture which was scheduled to be played in Leeds.
Wigan’s DW Stadium will provide the stage for the double-header which includes the second men’s quarter-final on 5 November as well as the England women vs Canada women.
Manchester will create further sporting history by hosting all three tournament finals over a weekend of global rugby league festivities. Manchester Central, located in the heart of the city centre, will now host the wheelchair final on 18 November. The next day (19 November) the men’s and women’s double header finals will take place at Old Trafford, Manchester.
All 32 teams from 21 competing countries participating in the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments are fully committed to the revised tournament schedule in 2022.
Fixtures
The 2021 Rugby League World Cup will be the 16th edition of the tournament – and the first time men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments are being held in the same country at the same time.
After last year’s postponement, it has finally arrived with every game covered live on the BBC.
All Rugby League World Cup matches will be available to watch on the BBC. England’s upcoming match can be watched on BBC Two, with coverage starting before 5pm at 4.30pm, while fans can stream the match on BBC iPlayer or watch it on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.
Groups
On Wednesday, the first match of Group D between Tonga and Papua New Guinea will take place at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Both the teams will try to win and gain momentum by taking an early lead in the group.
The three tournaments will take place at 21 venues across England. Both the women’s and wheelchair competitions will be contested by two groups of four teams, while the men’s tournament will see 16 teams competing in four groups.
RLWC2021 will be the most visible rugby league event in history, with all 61 games in the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions being broadcast live on the BBC.
