Gobert and his girlfriend, Julia Bonilla, announced in February that they were expecting a child. Despite potentially missing a playoff game, Gobert is excited about becoming a father.

“It’s amazing,” he told the Deseret News earlier this year. “It’s a blessing. It’s something I always wanted in my life. I’m glad I found the right person to move forward with and I’m excited.”

When discussing the birth of his first child with his teammates, Gobert made it clear that everyone was supporting him and encouraged him to be there for his family when the time came.

“I would do anything to be there,” he said. “I don’t think there should be any debate on it. Coach Finch and every guy in this locker room, that’s what I love about them, we have a level of human connection and empathy for each other that I think is really cool.” And I think everyone would literally be telling me, ‘Don’t play, go.'”

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said before Game 2 that Gobert would miss the game due to personal reasons. Sources confirmed that Gobert was in the Twin Cities with his fiancée Julia Bonilla on Monday for the birth of their child.
