But he also questioned the “narrative” around the team in response to questions over the dismissal of Brett Raton and the club’s leadership, saying it was “a bit disrespectful”.
The former Saints boss – who is expected to be confirmed as Rattan’s replacement soon – spoke with Nine after days of meetings with team higher-ups and the board.
“We are very close and are giving both sides the time to do their ERP, do their due diligence and hopefully cross the line in the not too distant future,” Lyon said.
“Because things are pointing that way. I’m curious, my heart has opened.”
