Rory McIlroy MBE (born 4 May 1989) is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland who is a member of both the European and PGA Tours. He is the former world number one player in the Official World Golf Ranking, having spent more than 100 weeks in that position during his career. He is a four-time major champion, winning the 2011 US Open, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship and 2014 PGA Championship. Along with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, he is one of three players to have won four Majors by the age of 25.

McIlroy needed something special and had to be aggressive in the last 18 holes. Having recently changed to a cross-handed putt grip, the Northern Irishman still seemed uneasy on Augusta’s slippery greens and couldn’t find anything with a flat iron.
For the second day in a row, he found the fairway bunker right at par-five seconds and failed to capitalize on a legitimate birdie opportunity after bogeying down to start his final round.
The driver served McIlroy well when he drove on the green at number 3 and had a manageable putt for Eagle, yet failed to capitalize and settled for a two-put birdie. Adam Serson of the score captured where McIlroy’s drive came to rest and reacted to the ridiculous rocket of a drive.

Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau Valero missed the cut at the Texas Open as Ryan Palmer opened a two-shot lead at the halfway stage in San Antonio.

As much as everyone loves to see an incredible victory, there is something about an epic collapse that is just as intriguing. The same can be said for any sport, but it is especially true in golf.
Maybe it’s because it’s an individual sport where the players themselves have no one to rely on, but when a golfer blows it up on the big stage, it’s painful and amusing. There have been plenty of choke jobs at major championships in golf history, and with the Masters being played this week, we may soon be seeing another.
Last year it was rising star Rory McIlroy who succumbed to failure at the Masters with the eyes of the world watching. He will have a chance to atone for that slump on Sunday, as he is in the hunt once again in the 2012 edition.
The knee on golf’s biggest stage in consecutive years will be a tough pill to swallow, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility. While it may not be of the same magnitude as the events that happened with McIlroy in the past year or so, there is a good chance that one will come under pressure this weekend.
Perhaps they will join this list of the biggest meltdowns in golf history.
