At a press conference Thursday afternoon, former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington addressed the media for the first time since his resignation, telling reporters that the reason for his departure was that he had cheated on his wife, Geraldine. In a brief statement, Washington said he “was not true to my wife” and apologized to her, the Rangers, and the team’s fans for his actions.

Washington, 62, who did not respond to questions, asked that people respect his and his wife’s privacy. “This matter is certainly personal and we are doing our best to put it behind us,” he said.
