Roswell high school
The Roswell High School community is mourning the shocking death of senior quarterback Robbie Roper Wednesday afternoon. Roswell tight end Zeke Moore said everyone at Roswell knew Roper — not just as the star athlete who threw game-winning touchdowns — but as the kind of guy who could talk to anyone before the morning bell rang.
“Obviously everyone knew what he could do on the field, but once he got in the building and started to talk people who don’t know how football works – they know Robbie,” said Moore. Roswell Football Head Coach Chris Prewitt told CBS46 Roper was a “model citizen” with exemplary character on and off the field.
“Robbie did everything in life with a contagious positive and energetic attitude that will be missed by all who knew him,” said Prewitt. “Robbie fought and battled until the very end like he did everything in life.” Roper’s teammates agreed his attitude away from the football field made him a true leader. “He was truly someone everyone knew and looked up to in a lot of ways,” said Moore. “He cared about everyone else.” Moore recalled one day when he and Roper read books to young children at school.
Shoulder surgery
Robbie suffered a significant shoulder injury while playing for his high school football team, the Roswell Hornets, which forced him to take a break from the game and be sent to the hospital.
Although no substantial evidence has been shown, it has been stated that he died suddenly as a result of faulty validation of anesthetic doses but he is still alive. The question of whether the dose was too high or if he anticipated some negative effects from the initial sedative dose remains unanswered. During his athletic phase, Robbie was not reported to have any health-related issues or illnesses.
Family
The family of 2022 quarterback recruit Robbie Roper announced he died on Wednesday. His cause of death has not been confirmed or announced by the family, but Roswell High School coach Chris Prewett told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the quarterback died following complications from a routine surgery.
“Hey guys it’s the Roper family. We just wanted to update everyone on Robbie. Robbie just passed,” the family said in the Tweet. “He was the biggest joy to our family. We are proud of the young man he has become. He will be missed by his friends and family dearly. We are still working on funeral arrangements, and will update everyone on the date, time, and location.”
