Press conference
After the final offer made to players by owners earlier today, both sides have halted talks and missed the “deadline” MLB had given to get a deal without canceling games. With the regular session now officially delayed, both sides have scheduled press conferences. Rob Manfred’s conference took place earlier. Here are the highlights of that press conference. (I apologize if this will be mostly tweets.)
Clown
The damage that Rob Manfred has done to the game of baseball has embarrassed me as a baseball fan. From the Astros’ handling of the sign theft scandal to the unnecessary fight between MLB and the MLBPA, he pissed me and so many other fans off and on. I can’t believe that 5 days ago, he said that he was 100% confident that there would be a season in 2020 and now he lies to all of us and says he doesn’t believe there will be a season. This commissioner has become an absolute prankster and if he remains commissioner, he will continue to damage the game I love. Please sign my petition to get rid of Rob Manfred because he needs to leave.

Manfred Apologizes for World Series Trophy Comment Rob Manfred says he referred to the World Series trophy in a derogatory way on Sunday and apologizes
Scottsdale, Ariz. – Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred apologized Tuesday for describing the World Series trophy as “a piece of metal” during an on-camera interview with ESPN, a detail that prompted Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner criticized. And Chicago Cubs started pitcher John Lester.
Manfred said he referred to the World Series trophy named the Commissioners Trophy “in a derogatory way”, attempting to make “a rhetorical point” about the prospect of separating the Houston Astros from the 2017 championship.
“I want to apologize for that,” Manfred said at a news conference at the Omni Scottsdale Resort. “There’s no excuse for that. I made a mistake. I was trying to make a point, but I should have made it more effectively, and again, I apologize for that.
“I will say this: I have awarded five World Series trophies. There is no greater joy in this job than to be given that trophy. I understand what that means, and then, saying what I said was a mistake.”
Manfred spoke two days after addressing a media party at another news conference in Florida that appeared to anger fans and players over the Astros’ handling of the sign-theft scandal.
