Richard Sherman: Post game| Reaction| Run the ball

Amazon NFL commentator Richard Sherman may have felt he stepped into “The Twilight Zone” Thursday night while watching a Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts game.

With quarterback Russell Wilson in the center, the Broncos made the awkward decision to throw the football on third and four when the team was at the Colts’ 13-yard line, with 2:13 remaining in the fourth quarter. In most defensive games, the score was tied at 9-9.

So a simple running game and a field goal kick would have forced the Colts to go the length of the field and match at least three points at the other end to move the game into overtime.

And yet, Wilson threw the ball to Colts cornerback Stephen Gilmore, a former New England Patriot, incidentally, driving for the Colts to snow and send the game into overtime, where they beat the Broncos 12–9.

Reaction

After the game, former cornerback Richard Sherman was among analysts who discussed his thoughts on the broadcast of Amazon Prime.

Essentially, Sherman brought up a point in both his (and Wilson’s) past: Super Bowl XLIX, which the Seahawks lost 28-24 to the Patriots.

“On the last game, you have to get the ball running again,” Sherman began. “I wish I was Marshawn here.”

Sherman, referring to his former Seahawks teammate, Marshawn Lynch, was a reference to the memorable sequence at the end of the Super Bowl in 2015, when Seattle chose to go to the goal line rather than run. Wilson, then Seahawks quarterback, threw a Super Bowl-losing interception to Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler.

“Like, a yard. You need a yard. Run the ball. Run the ball!” Sherman was furious. “All he has to do is play football. necessary criticism. I’ve criticized him enough, but jeopardize it, run the dang ball! Like, learn from your mistakes.”

After the game, Sherman tweeted his famous reaction to Butler’s interception for his current thoughts on the fault of Wilson and the Broncos.

Run the ball

Richard Sherman had harshly criticized former teammate and current Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson for the final game of Thursday night’s game.

The Broncos faced the Indianapolis Colts who did not display great offense. The Colts defeated the Broncos 12–9 in a game with no touchdowns. Each point scored came from field goals scored by the kickers.

Sherman became furious about the final play of the game when Wilson and the Broncos offense decided to pass the ball to fourth and one instead of run play. The situation was much the same when Wilson and Sherman were teammates on the Seattle Seahawks and lost against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX on an interception thrown by Wilson over a yard line.

The play call was questioned because the Seahawks had Marshawn Lynch as their run, who ended that season 4 in the rushing yards, but decided to call a pass play instead. Sherman didn’t hold back on his thoughts about Thursday night’s game.
