The Associated Press reported that NFL player Richard Sherman pleaded guilty Monday to charges related to drunk driving and a domestic incident, but will avoid jail time due to a plea bargain. Sherman, then a free agent, was arrested on July 14 after he allegedly crashed his car into a construction barrier and tried to break into his in-laws’ home in Seattle.
Controversy
Sherman pleaded guilty to charges of reckless driving and criminal trespassing, both misdemeanors, as well as a speeding violation in a construction zone. He was sentenced to two days in jail, which he had already served, and fined $1,325.
Drunk
Richard Sherman was drunk and threatening to kill himself during a confrontation with family members before his arrest early Wednesday in a Seattle suburb, according to a 911 caller who identified herself as the wife of free-agent cornerback.

In a video posted on the Players’ Tribune, Sherman said his expected recovery time is four to five months after surgery on a torn Achilles suffered in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals.

The 49ers did not rule out the possibility of Richard Sherman rejoining the team. But he ended that opportunity on Wednesday when he signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
