Regina Pats: Coaching Staff| U13 Classic| Roster

The Regina Pats are a junior ice hockey team that plays in the Western Hockey League. The Pats are based out of Regina, Saskatchewan, and the Brandt Center is their home area. The Regina Pats are the oldest major junior hockey franchise in the world, operating continuously from their original location and using the same name. They began operations in 1917. They were originally named the Regina Patricia Hockey Club, after Princess Patricia of Connaught, Queen Victoria’s granddaughter and daughter of the Governor General (Duke of Connaught). The team’s name was also associated with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, which was named for the same princess, to the point that Pat’s sweaters still bear the regimental badge and the “PPCLI” flash as the shoulder patch. . In 2017 the club celebrated its 100th anniversary. The Games are broadcast on 620 CKRM Radio.

Coaching Staff

As previously reported by the Regina Leader-Post, the WHL club announced on Thursday that John Paddock is stepping down from the bench to focus entirely on his GM duties. This clears the way for Struch to be promoted to head coach after serving as Paddock’s top assistant for the past four seasons.

Paddock, who just turned 64. “He is a head coach. He is over capacity. (It’s the right move) simply because of where the team is and our relationships and our ability to work together. It’s just common sense (to do it now). ,

Paddock and Struch were originally the first major hires by the Pats’ new owners – Queen City Sports and Entertainment Group – after the team changed hands in 2014.

Before moving to the paddock, Struch was a finalist for Regina’s head-coaching job, who later circled back and recruited her competitor. He hit it immediately and worked shoulder to shoulder in guiding the team to a record of 165-89-21-13 over four seasons.

“I want to express my gratitude to Dave for his many years of dedication to the Pats organization.” For several seasons, Dave’s enthusiasm and hockey expertise have been valuable assets. In a press release, John Paddock, vice president and general manager of hockey operations, said, “He is greatly respected in the hockey world and within our organization.”

“It was a tough choice, but it is one that needs to be made to get the team where we need to go.” Struch led the Pats to a record 55-101-15 in 171 games as their head coach from 2018 to 21.

The COVID-19 pandemic cut short both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Struch also served as an assistant coach for the Patriots from 2014 to 2017. After the Memorial Cup was hosted by the Pats in 2018, he took over as head coach the following season.
