Reece Walsh: Out| State of origin| Injury
Reece Walsh (born 10 July 2002) is a rugby league footballer who plays as a fullback for the Brisbane Broncos in the National Rugby League (NRL).
Out
Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters says superstar fullback Reece Walsh is “crippling” with a knee injury that has forced him out of Friday night’s Magic Round clash against Manly.
But Walters was adamant it was not a long-term issue, and Walsh could only miss one match, which would ensure his State of Origin campaign for Queensland is in no doubt.
It is another blow for Brisbane, who are dealing with a serious injury list, with Selwyn Cobo having to move to fullback against the Sea Eagles team, while also missing their biggest star in Tom Trbojevic.
Josiah Carapani will make his NRL debut at left centre, with Walsh expected to return next week.
Broncos coach Kevin Walters said, “Walshi has been limping with his knee during the week and not feeling well today, so we’ll drop him and bring Josiah in at left center.”
State of origin
Walsh was born in Southport, a suburb of the Gold Coast, Queensland, to an Indigenous Australian father and a Māori mother from Hastings, New Zealand. He was raised by his father and stepmother in the Gold Coast suburb of Nerang, and grew up playing junior rugby league for the Nerang Roosters.
Injury
Brisbane have suffered another injury blow with fullback Reece Walsh ruled out of the Manly clash with a knee injury.
Coach Kevin Walters said ahead of Friday night’s Magic Round showdown that the Broncos would move center Selwyn Cobo to No. 1 and give center Josiah Karapani his NRL debut. Karapani, 22, has been shining for Burley in the Queensland Cup.
“Walshie has been limping with his knee during the week and he’s not in good shape today so we’ll leave him out and bring Josiah in at left centre,” Walters said on Thursday.
“We picked up Josiah from Souths last year. He started the year a bit slow but his form has picked up a lot over the last few weeks. I like his pace and his whole change in attitude. It’s been really positive for him. Is.
“I don’t think it’s going to be a long-term thing for Reece. I think it’ll take him a week (out) to stabilize. He’s just taking the side of it, which I picked up on this morning.”
