Stephen Curry takes about a second and a half from the time of releasing the basketball to reach a distance of more than 22 feet, a flicker of time that is somehow, for an expected crowd, his defenders and teammates, televised. Feels frozen to the audience. Front Office Officer.
“Emotionally, he will take you on a journey,” said Bob Myers, general manager of the Golden State Warriors. “And I’m not sure it exists for the other players. It remains to be seen.”
13 seasons for the NBA, Curry has been dislodging box scores for Golden State, and on Tuesday, he became the NBA’s most prolific 3-point shooter when he surpassed Ray Allen’s career record. The record-tying and record-breaking shots came early in the first quarter of the game against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, with Allen present and every time Curry touched the ball.
Career Length
Curry entered Tuesday’s game, requiring two 3-pointers, to set the record after making six in the Warriors’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers at the Chase Center on Wednesday, three Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Lost to the 76ers and in five. Monday night win over the Indiana Pacers.
While Allen accumulated his 3-point score in 1,300 NBA games, Curry needed just 789 games to claim the record.
At just 33 years old, Curry would set a new standard for 3-point shooting and set a new all-time record nearly unattainable when his career ended.
Allen’s record remained in place for nearly 11 years after he broke Reggie Miller’s mark of 2,560 on February 10, 2011. Never say never, but it’s a good bet that no one will ever break Curry’s record.
While Curry would have preferred to break Allen’s record in front of Warriors fans at the Chase Center last week or against younger brother Seth on Saturday, Steph would have preferred a nationally televised game with Miller at MSG, basketball’s mecca, calling Miller Had to do this with ,
Breaking the records of both Miller and Allen at one time was not lost on Curry, who saw both sharpshooters grow up. When Allen was teammate with the Dale on the Milwaukee Bucks in 1998–99, a young Steph was there watching and taking notes.
3 point Record
The Golden State Warriors star guard became the all-time leader in 3-pointers in a 105-96 win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, knocking down the 2,974th of his career pass Hall of Famer Ray Allen.
The record-breaking shot came in the first quarter with a time of 7 minutes, 33 seconds as Curry pulled 28 feet from the right wing through a pass from Andrew Wiggins. The Warriors fouled quickly and timed out so that Curry could enjoy the moment.
“It was a beautiful end to last week,” Curry said after the game. “The buildup to getting this number, it was a special atmosphere. I knew how iconic this place was – I can’t say it enough, I appreciate the way the fans embraced the moment.” With me and let me get lost in it. I could feel it. Once I took the shot on the wing, it felt good, it felt good – it felt like we were at home.”
