On 21 November 2012, following the dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo, Chelsea appointed Benítez as interim first-team manager until the end of the 2012–13 season.
He was unveiled as the new Chelsea manager at a press conference on 22 November 2012.

He played with Guardamar on loan in 1981 before singing with Parla from 1981 until 1985.
