Mountain biker Rube Wardell has died at the age of 37 – just two days after winning the Scottish Championships.
Wardell won the elite men’s title at the Scottish MTB XC Championships in Dumfries and Galloway over the weekend.
The rider appeared on BBC Scotland’s The Nine program on Monday evening, describing how he overcame three punctures to win the race.
The former Commonwealth Games cyclist set a new record time to complete the West Highland Way in 2020.

Olympic hero Katie Archibald has bravely revealed how she desperately tried to revive her partner, Rube Wardell, before his sudden death on Tuesday. Wardell tragically fell into cardiac arrest while in bed with Archibald.
Despite efforts by both the visiting Olympians and paramedics, Wardell could not be revived and died just two days after becoming Scottish cross country champion. Following his death, fellow cross country bike rider Archibald has bravely opened up on social media about the tragic circumstances.

His partner, Olympic track cycling champion Katie Archibald, said he suffered a cardiac arrest while in bed next to him.
Since then there has been a flood of tributes from the cycling community.
Wardell, who lives in Glasgow, had ridden mountain bikes as a teenager, but turned professional earlier this year.
