Seahawks free safety Quandre Diggs has had a great 2021 season. It appears it is about to end in tragedy, though. Diggs lost in the fourth quarter of his team’s final game of the year against the Cardinals in what appeared to be a major leg injury.

Adrian Phillips was clearly upset as he walked to his press conference podium after the Patriots’ loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but his feelings had nothing to do with the game. Upon leaving the field, Phillips learned that his friend and former Texas teammate Quandre Diggs had suffered a severe leg injury in the Seattle Seahawks season finale against Arizona. In an effort to get a message of support to Diggs, who had been taken off the field, Phillips, who had tears in his eyes, spoke directly to the cameras hoping it would reach him.

Trade

The Seahawks solidified their secondary on Wednesday with a trade, acquiring former Lions starting security Quandre Diggs. The Seahawks made a trade with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday to consolidate their secondary acquiring security Quandre Diggs. The Seahawks will send the Lions a 2020 fifth-round pick in exchange for Diggs and the 2021 seventh rounder. The Seahawks had an additional fifth-round pick in the next year’s draft, a result of the trade they sent Nick Vennett to Pittsburgh earlier this season. Guard Jordan Ross was given an exemption to make it to the 53-man roster. Diggs, 26, has been a starting safety for the Lions since moving to that position during the 2017 season. Prior to this, he mainly played nickel cornerback. A sixth-round pick from Texas in 2015, Diggs has appeared in 65 games over the past five seasons, starting with 40, including all 16 games from the previous season. Diggs has defended 235 tackles, six interceptions and 24 passes in his career. He had three interceptions in both 2017 and 2018 and defended 17 passes over the span of those two seasons. Diggs was also chosen as the captain of the team by his teammates for the 2019 season.
