Kylian Mbappe played the main painer as Paris Saint-Germain began their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win over Juventus at home on Tuesday, their first win against the Italian side. Mbappe opened the scoring with a fine goal and added a second in the opening half, before Weston McKennie reduced the dues after the break as the French champion’s level went down a notch.

Kylian Mbappe’s superb first-half double was barely enough to earn PSG all three points as the Parisians blocked a second-half comeback attempt by visiting Juventus in their Champions League group stage opener.

The Italian side was poor in the first 45 minutes, with Mbappe and Neymar breaching their defense on several occasions, and likewise unable to find a way through Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal. However, a Weston McKennie start after the break turned the game in Juve’s favor and pushed into the second half.

McKennie returned once for Juve at the start of the second half, rising high to meet a corner, but Donnarumma stood tall on several occasions.

Both sides had crucial moments to swing the momentum in their favor in the second half, but Donnarumma and his opposite number Mattia Perrin continued to excel.

Kylian Mbappe scored a pair of first-half goals as Paris Saint-Germain beat Juventus 2-1 in their Champions League group stage opener at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.

The hosts got off to a strong start in five minutes when Neymar threw the ball over the head of the Juventus defense and Mbappe hit a first volley off Mattia Perrin to give PSG the lead.

Mbappe scored his second of the night – another laser first volley near Perrin – with Achraf Hakimi after some good interchanges in the penalty area to set up the France international to double PSG’s lead.

Lionel Messi set Mbappe down the right flank as the second half got underway, but the French forward, instead of sending the ball across Neymar, took his chance with a shot that went well.
