Celtics
The first in-season trade by Brad Stevens as chairman of the Celtics’ basketball operations was a bit of a surprise at first glance. Boston traded in PJ Dossier and Bol Bol for a pair of players who would not see NBA courts for the foreseeable future.
Dossier, 25, tore his ACL in late November, ending his season after only 18 games. Meanwhile, Bol underwent foot surgery this week which will sideline him for the next 8-12 weeks. It puts the 22-year-old on a timeline to return to action as Boston gears up for the postseason, not the best time to take a closer look at a youngster who is set to become a free agent this off-season.
Contract
The Celtics agreed to trade Juancho Hernangomez to the Spurs in a three-team deal, which Nuggets guard P.J. Both Dossier and Bol are out of action indefinitely due to injuries.
For the Celtics, it is mostly a pay shedding move that they will get this season under the luxury tax. Hernangomez, who appeared in just 18 games and averaged 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds, is earning $6.2 million this year.
Meanwhile, Dossier and Boll are on contract worth $1.9 million and $2.1 million, respectively. The Celtics made an open roster spot last week when they waived veteran forward Jabari Parker before his salary was fully guaranteed.
Injury
Injury issues keep piling up for the Denver Nuggets. Jamal Murray started the season on the shelf last April after suffering from a torn ACL.
