Golfer Phil Mickelson has apologized for controversial comments he made about Saudi Arabia and the Saudi-backed upstart golf league, which had long hoped to lure star players from the golf establishment.
In a statement posted to social media on Tuesday, Mickelson wrote that he used the words “I am sincerely sorry” in a recently published interview, in which the six-time major winner called the Saudi regime a “scary motherf* *****” told and brushed what is known about human rights violations, including the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
“It was reckless, I offended people, and I am deeply sorry for my choice of words,” Mickelson wrote.
