Phil Mickelson had more on his mind this week, while he was only missing his third cut at Torrey Pines as a professional.

Phil’s wife Amy Mickelson said Friday morning that their 10-year-old daughter, Sofia, fainted and suffered a small stroke while at school last Friday morning while Phil Mickelson was playing at the Humana Challenge in La Quinta.

Phil Mickelson is known for playing a cup of coffee in his hands as he is known for his witty retorts. However, he’s not just addicted, there’s a reason. A few years back, he was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and used to fall ill frequently. One solution that nutrition experts suggested to Mickelson was to drink more coffee.

In an interview with Golf Digest, he revealed, “I ended up doing that and continue to do so to this day. I drink coffee all day long and I haven’t been sick a day in the last ten years. So, it took me a long time.” It has changed my life in this regard and it has helped me to control any kind of ailments that I might have.”

“Over the past 10 days I’ve done what I call a hard reset, to try and change things and make things better. I’ve lost 15 pounds. I’ve done a six-day fast with water and wellness.” I did a special coffee blend I was working on with Dave Phillips, and backtracked a bit.”
