The pitch at Perth Stadium has been mostly batting friendly. The fast bowlers are expected to get a lot of pace and bounce from the surface. Winning the toss, the team should field first and it is not easy to defend the score at this venue.

On Wednesday, 8 December, the Perth Scorchers will face the Brisbane Heat in BBL Match 5 at Optus Stadium. The Scorchers will be excited to start their season with a win, as their season is yet to begin. Colin Munro, Mitchell Marsh and Laurie Evans lead a powerful lineup that makes them a dangerous hitting team. As for their bowling, Tymal Mills, Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff are all T20 specialists. Ashton Agar and Peter Hatzoglu will try to control the opposition’s scoring rate. Meanwhile, Brisbane Heat had a poor start to the tournament, winning big to Sydney Thunder. Ben Duckett (35 balls 46) and Sam Hejlett (37 balls 42) helped the Heat reach 140 runs. Xavier Bartlett scored an unbeaten 26 and bowled 1-21 for an all-round performance.

It’s a wrap for today’s double-header in the BBL. Two high-scoring games today, but none of the chases were interesting. Anyway, we had two great innings to savor – one from Wade and then Monroe in this game. Hope you enjoy our coverage of the matches. Until next time, it’s our goodbyes.

Colin Munro | Player of the match: For us as a team, we wanted to get better. Mitch Marsh and Inglis will return. It would be nice to have them back. It’s great to be back in the same team. Familiar player. Even though you have played a lot of franchise cricket, you do not want to go back to the new team to prove yourself. Part and parcel of the BBL (about not playing at home). We have to adapt. We just have to do this. It is easy to fit into this environment. We were beaten by a better team last year (in the final against Sydney Sixers). New tournament, new team. Just go out and play good cricket. I was having a little fun with the crowd in Perth (flipping the bottle on the boundary in the last game). I hit it on the captain’s knuckles because I was not paying attention to him. Today he said that you will keep your eyes on me without the crowd.

00:34 local time, 13:34 GMT, 19:04 IST: It ended too early for the Strikers, who lost their last six wickets for 12 runs in just 15 balls. Not that there were beaches before this, but at least there was an outdoor chance. Seeing how well Short was hitting them, and how sweet young Kelly was hitting them. But the former’s dismissal at Power Surge started a procession and things ended very quickly after that. Chasing 190-plus was always going to be difficult, especially when it was against a good defense like the Scorchers. But the Strikers had their moments of chasing, even if they didn’t advance to any level. They blame only themselves, however, for having given Monroe too much life the night before and it cost them dearly.
