He was noticed by the team’s head coach Johan Cruyff and at the age of 20 he was drafted into the senior team. He played as a defender. He spent most of his career with Barcelona. He was part of Johan Cruyff’s dream team which won the club’s first European Union in 1992 and four consecutive Spanish league titles from 1991 to 1994. Pep later captained the team from 1997 to 2001. After retiring as a player, Guardiola began coaching Barcelona B. , with which they won the Tercera División title and took control of the first team in 2008.
