Paul Dear was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League. Younger brother of fellow Hawk ruckman Greg Dear, Paul was the smaller of the two, Greg stood at 199 cm to Paul’s 188cm.

Pancreatic cancer
He got a regular game in 1990. He played 23 games and his form continued until 1991. He then received his Premiership Medallion and helped Hawthorne beat the West Coast by two goals and win the Norm Smith Medal in the 1991 Grand Final.
In an interview with the Herald Sun last year, Dear said he was not worried about dying, and was determined to enjoy his life while he still could.
“I’ve always had a very simple philosophy in life. When your time’s up, your time’s up,” Dear said at the time.
“I’ve never worried about dying. Everyone is going to die, it’s just a matter of when. Our reflection was very much along the lines of, ‘let’s not focus on the dying, let’s focus on living.'”
