Jamahal Hill’s light heavyweight bout against Paul Craig at UFC 263 ended with a horrific arm injury, with referee Al Guin appearing ready to go through with the 30-year-old’s fight.

Hill’s hand was heavily damaged but he remained in the octagon for as long as possible in the first fight on the main card. Guinea eventually called a bout for Craig in a technical knockout at 1:59 of the first round – to criticism from many on the site, who felt that the official had waited too long before ending it.

Hill’s desire to remain in the fight is understandable. The Chicago native went on to an 8-0-1 undefeated night, most recently beating Ovins St. Preux via TKO (punches) in UFC on ESPN: Hermanson vs. Vettori last December.

Paul Craig promised to show off his jiu-jitsu at UFC 263 and he gave the most terrifying appearances in recent history.

Drawing guard after an early exchange in the fight, Craig immediately began attacking Jamahal Hill’s arm as he looked for the finish. Craig eventually locked the armbar and as he extended an elbow, Hill broke his arm but the referee did not see it so the fight continued.

There was a lot of bad blood among the light heavyweights going into the night, but Craig clearly didn’t allow his performance to change as he looked to drag Hill to the ground from the opening exchange.

Once the fight landed on the canvas, Craig was throwing submissions from below until he finally grabbed the armbar during the melee, which eventually ended.
