Pat Cummins was on his toes for Kolkata Knight Riders in the match against Mumbai Indians as he smashed an unbeaten 56 off just 15 balls. Cummins completed his fifty in just 14 balls and as a result, he registered the joint-fastest fifty in the history of IPL. This is also the fastest fifty of the current season. Earlier, the fastest fifty in IPL was that of KL Rahul as he scored a 14-ball fifty against Delhi Capitals in 2018. Cummins hit 6 sixes and four fours during his stormy innings. It was his first match of the season as he missed KKR’s first three matches as part of Australia’s Test tour of Pakistan. Cummins’ knock helped KKR register their third win of the season and it also meant that Mumbai Indians lost their third straight match of IPL 2022.

Talking about the new Kolkata captain Shreyas Iyer, who joined the team after the franchise spent Rs 12.25 crore in the mega auction, Hussey called him a ‘born leader’. “Shreyas is a born leader, the way he goes out and commands the airfield. He’s got the respect of all the players. Knowing Pat well, he’ll be a good deputy, a good one among the group.” Will be the leader. And will also lead from the front.”

He said, “The way Shreyas has captained for Delhi in the past, he has a very good cricketing mind. He has a good vision of how we want to play the game and I think he himself very well. It’s great. Smart move from Brendon (McCullum) and management from KKR.”

Asked whether Kolkata lacks a key player in the wicketkeeping department, Hussey mentioned Saurashtra wicketkeeper-batsman Sheldon Jackson and England’s Sam Billings as substitutes. “We have Sheldon Jackson, who is an amazing wicketkeeper and works hard for his game. He is also an amazing striker of the cricket ball and has dominated Ranji Trophy and he has been with the team for a few years now. I think That he is going to open the tournament.”
