Babar Azam’s Pakistan and Jos Buttler-led England will lock horns with each other in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday (November 13). The match is expected to be a nail-biting contest as both these sides have upped their game in the middle of the tournament and have found the best playing XI. England’s morale has been boosted by fast bowler Mark Wood being declared fit for the final. Both Pakistan and England had a poor start to the tournament. Pakistan, in fact, lost their first two matches against India and Zimbabwe respectively.

Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and Adil Rashid were the stars of the final as England became the first team in men’s white-ball history to hold T20 and ODI World tiles together on Sunday. Stokes stood tall in the midst of some terrific pace bowling from Pakistan bowlers as he registered his maiden half-century in T20I cricket, remained unbeaten on 52 and led England to a five-wicket win. Chasing 138, England were dealt an early blow, losing both their openers and Philippe Salt inside the powerplay. Pakistan fought hard but in the end, there were not enough runs on the board as Shaheen Afridi stumbled in the slog overs, unable to meet his quota of overs. England chased 138 runs in 19 overs. Jos Buttler then opted to bowl first and his bowlers supported the call with the ball continuing their excellent tournament with a combined performance taking 3/12 in four overs. Adil Rashid was economical as always with 2/22 while Chris Jordan was commendable with figures of 2/27 as well. Shan Masood was the top scorer for Pakistan with 38 off 28 balls as they failed to build a big partnership thanks to regular strikes from England.

Jos Buttler, England captain: It is. Really proud of everyone here, for winning the T20 World Cup now. It has been a wonderful tournament. We had been to Pakistan before coming here, which was a valuable time for the group. He has fitted really well. We have some Australians in the coaching staff. Tremendous swing in the game, a brilliant over from Adil. Has been excellent for us in the last three games, just a guy who does things. There is some movement when you hit a length. We were able to start but it was not easy. Ben Stokes Perfect in the end. He is the ultimate competitor in whatever he does. Experience too. That round with Moeen Ali, took him away from Pakistan.
