BRIDGEPORT, Conn – Over the past 25 years, UConn has been known for scoring long scoring runs that turn tight games into blowouts.

The Paige Bueckers and the Huskies put together a classic to start the second half against Indiana on Saturday and enter the program’s 16th consecutive regional final.

The Buyers’ 3-pointer launched a 16-0 attack to open the third quarter and the Huskies ran Indiana 75-58 at Bridgeport Regionals.

“We started to push the ball more in the transition; we got some easy bucks in there,” Buckers said. “I thought we played with a lot better pace and a lot better energy.”

The Buyers and Christine Williams each scored 15 points and Azzie Fudd had 13 to lead Yukon, which faces top-seeded North Carolina state on Monday night in an attempt to earn a 14th straight trip to the Final Four.

But it was in that street where Huskies dominated. Olivia Nelson-Ododa had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds and Connecticut (28-5) put out the Hoosiers 46-32 in the paint. UConn beat Indiana 39-27, including 15-2 on the offensive end.

“Rebounding throughout the season has been particularly focused by the coaches,” Nelson-Ododa said. “Today just going out, staying in the aggressive mindset and just keeping attacking, crashing the boards was really big for us.”

Ali Patberg, in his seventh year of college basketball thanks to transfer and COVID-19 regulations, had 16 points for the third-seeded Hoosiers, who end their season at 24-9. Grace Berger had 13 points for Indiana and McKenzie Holmes added 12 points.
