Injury Update:

Paige Bueckers, the defending National Player of the Year in women’s college basketball and a star guard for No. 2-ranked UConn, suffered a knee injury late in the Huskies’ 73-54 victory against Notre Dame on Sunday.

Bueckers was dribbling the basketball up the floor with less than a minute to play when her leg appeared to buckle as she attempted to plant it. Bueckers collapsed to the floor, and she had to be helped off the court by two teammates.

Bueckers was selected as a unanimous preseason AP All-American heading into her second season with the Huskies. Last year, she became the first freshman to win the Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy, and she also was named the Associated Press Player of the Year.

She led the Huskies with 20 points and 5.8 assists per game last season, shooting 52.4% from the field and 46.4% from three, scoring at least 20 points 14 times.

UConn’s Paige Bueckers has become the first-ever college athlete to be signed by Gatorade during the Name, Image and Likeness era.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting she could make an estimated $1 million a year in endorsements between Gatorade and another deal with StockX.

Family:

When Bueckers was three years old, her parents divorced. She remained with her father while her mother remarried and moved to Billings, Montana.

Bueckers has two younger brothers, Ryan and Drew, and a younger sister, Lauren. She has hosted a charity basketball clinic called “Buckets for Bueckers” for young athletes.
