Trading davante adams
GREEN BAY, Wis. — It turns out that Aaron Rodgers’ return to the Green Bay Packers didn’t mean the same thing for Davante Adams.
Adams, his favorite target, left town in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders just days after Rodgers signed his blockbuster contract extension to return, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schaffter on Thursday.
The Raiders are sending their first round pick (No. 22) and second-round pick (No. 53) to the Packers in this year’s draft, sources told Schaffter. This gives the Packers four picks in the top 60; He also has numbers 28 and 59.
A source said the 29-year-old Adams is signing a five-year contract with Las Vegas for an average of $28.5 million per season, with $67.5 million fully guaranteed. Rodgers was aware of the developments with Adams, who preferred to play elsewhere rather than return to Green Bay for a contract and pay structure similar to his deal with the Raiders, a source said.
The trade reunites Adams with Derek Carr, their quarterback at Fresno State before entering the NFL together in 2014, and also makes Carr the No. 1 receiver in his prime.
The Raiders’ odds for winning the Super Bowl improved slightly after the trade, rising from 60-1 to 50-1 in the Caesars sportsbook. Las Vegas AFC is 25-1 to win and AFC West has the fourth best margin to win 7-1.
Green Bay fell 11-1 to 12-1 to win the Super Bowl, but still own the second-best odds in the NFC behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-1).
The Packers used the franchise tag on Adams last week, but they are now exempt from that $20.14 million fee on their salary cap.
However, Green Bay now has a big need on receiver space. Last season he has two receiver free agents in his rotation: Deep Threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equinimus St. The Bears signed St. Brown on Thursday, but the Packers now have cap space to bring back Valdes-Scantling if they choose to. They banned the second round tender.
Trade adams
GREEN BAY, Wis. — In a surprise trade for the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl aspirations, the team traded All-Pro receiver DeVante Adams for the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday night.
The Packers will receive two draft picks in return: The Raiders’ first round pick at No. 22 and their second-round pick at No. 53. With Green Bay picks No. 28 and No. 59, the Packers are slated for four of the top 59 selections.
How the Packers — and quarterback Aaron Rodgers, in particular — will adjust without the game’s leading receiver is a mystery. As it stands, the Packers’ main receivers under contract are Alan Lazard, Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers. Perhaps the Packers can land a veteran at free agency; Adams is worth $20.1 million under the franchise tag. Perhaps they can take down the studs with immediate effect in the first round. Perhaps they can re-sign Robert Tonian, and he can return to form after last year’s torn ACL. Might be all of the above.
What cannot be changed is Rodgers’ supernatural relationship with Rodgers. Rodgers has chemistry with Lazard and Cobb but nothing compares to his unspoken bond with Rodgers.
“I told him in the locker room, the thing that I’ll miss for 20 years is the moment where you make a subtle adjustment, you look at that guy and it’s a stud like 17 and he just walked like this Gone (nods),” Rodgers said after a win in a Chicago game that was highlighted by a key 41-yard pass. “Like tingling all over the body. I just knew it was going to be one of those special plays.”

The twists and turns of this NFL off-season are not slowing down. Not even a little.
The Green Bay Packers stunned the NFL world on Thursday, trading superstar wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for a trade package that includes the first round of 2022, according to multiple reports.
Adams, in turn, is reportedly signing a massive five-year, $141.2 million extension with the Raiders, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. And yes, two-time defending MVP Aaron Rodgers knew it was likely to happen.
It still leaves a major question mark in Green Bay, though: Who’s going to throw Rodgers next season?
As of Thursday, the top two receivers remaining on Green Bay’s roster are Alan Lazard and Randall Cobb. So the packers have to do some work.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who caught 26 passes for 430 yards and three touchdowns last season, suddenly seems more important. His familiarity with Rodgers and the team’s offense made him a logical player to re-sign after Adams left.
But the Packers will also have free agency options, with veterans like Jarvis Landry, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Odell Beckham Jr. and Julio Jones still available.
