Purnell-Karl Sylvester Subban OLY (born May 13, 1989) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defender. Between 2009 and 2022, he played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils. The Canadiens selected Subban in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, 43rd overall. In 2013, he won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defender, and tied among defensemen with Chris Letang as the season’s leading scorer. In the summer of 2014, he signed an eight-year, $72 million contract with the Canadiens, which ran through the 2021–22 season. After the 2015–16 season, Subban was traded to the Nashville Predators, where he spent three seasons before being traded to New Jersey in 2019. He is also an analyst for the NHL on ESPN.

Contract
Subban, 33, saw his eight-year, $72 million contract expire after last season and was informed at the time by the New Jersey Devils that he was not being brought back, making him the UFA.
In 77 matches with the Devils last season, Subban scored five goals for 22 points and 17 assists.
TFP’s David Pagnotta told Thursday that while Subban’s position remains the status quo, nothing is close with regards to a new contract with the new NHL club.
It’s not clear what type of contract Subban is looking for, or what kind of dollars he’s looking for on a new deal, but he could be in the market for a one-year contract and see his salary somewhere around $$ 2 million can be seen. To the extent of $3 million.
Subban would love to be a playoff contender this season, but his options may be limited as so many teams are close to the $82.5 million salary limit.
