Shakur Stevenson is one of the youngest champions in boxing today and is ready to make a mark in the sport. Oscar Valdez wants to prove he’s the real deal.

The two will face each other for the WBO, WBC and The Ring Super Featherweight titles at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Stevenson, 24, won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics and made his debut in 2017. He won the WBO Featherweight title in 2019 by defeating Joet Gonzalez. He then moved up to super featherweight and won three of three fights in 2020. Stevenson captured the interim WBO Super Featherweight title against Jeremiah Nakatilla last June. He defeated Jemel Herring via TKO to win the WBO belt last October.

An icy one-on-one before a super-featherweight unification bout on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Stevenson appears to have exceeded the 130lb limit before removing his underwear behind the protective screen and properly completing his mark.

Valdez followed with a weight of 129.6lbs as the pair prepare to line up their world title and unbeaten record at the MGM Grand Garden.

A fiery environment, including a boon for New Jersey native Stevenson, appeared to promote a tense and icy final face, Valdez was the first to peel as he insisted on stepping in front of him to flex his counterpart. Before that the Mexican flag was proudly raised.

Saturday’s Super Featherweight Title Unification bout between WBC Champion Oscar Valdez and WBO Champion Shakur Stevenson has been described as a boxer versus slugger match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

And that’s not far from the truth, as Stevenson is one of the best boxers the super featherweight division has seen in years and Valdez is one of its toughest punchers.

But simply calling Valdez a slugger seems unfair to him and doesn’t take into account the full breadth and depth of his resume. Yes, anyone who saw his epic fight with then-champion Miguel Berchelt last year knows that Valdez can slug with the best of them.

Stevenson then fell on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend.

Shakur Stevenson challenges Oscar Valdez to crack the code of his sweet science prowess. Valdez didn’t come close.

Hoping to reach astronomical heights, Stevenson posted his biggest win on Saturday night as he produced a masterclass of unanimous decision over Valdez to be crowned junior lightweight unified champion of the world.

Judges at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas scored 118–109, 118–109 and 117–110 in favor of Stevenson, who added the WBC title to his own WBO hardware.
