Odell Cornelious Beckham Jr., commonly known as OBJ, is an American football wide receiver who is a free agent. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Beckham played college football at LSU and was drafted by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Beckham Jr. is an undeniably talented player, and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that he wants to play for a contender, according to a source close to the player. How much of that is true and how much of that is simply lip service to try and prevent teams higher up the waiver order from claiming Beckham has yet to be seen.
If OBJ is not claimed and goes into free agency, it will be interesting to see what length of deal he signs. Finding a contending team willing to commit big money on a long-term deal may be tough. Therefore, Beckham most likely will sign a one-year contract. That would leave him needing to finish the season strong in the hopes of earning a big payday in the 2022 offseason.

Beckham’s reported desire to play for a contender is a legitimate situation. Will Beckham be happy going to a team where he is the second or third receiving option? Or will he look for a situation where he has the chance to be the lead receiver and get 10+ targets per game?
If he really does want to contend, then there are plenty of options for him. However, if Beckham Jr. wanted to go somewhere he would be considered the No. 1 WR, his options would be significantly reduced. The New England Patriots have reportedly been in touch with Odell Beckham Jr.’s camp following the star wide receiver’s release from the Cleveland Browns, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe.
The news comes after CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reported Beckham would “take some time and assess the best situation for him” before making a decision.
