Jalen Green scored 25 points, Alpern Sengun added 21 points and 14 rebounds and the Houston Rockets beat the Denver Nuggets 105-86 on Friday night in the NBA’s in-season tournament.

Houston improved to 2–1 in the tournament with one game remaining in Dallas the following week. Denver finished group play 2-2. The defending champion Nuggets have lost five of seven after starting 8-1.

Nikola Jokic had a season-high 38 points with 19 rebounds and eight assists for Denver. Aaron Gordon shot 0 of 12 and had two points on the night, as the Nuggets shot 33.7%.

Houston coach Ime Udoka said the game plan was for Jokic to beat them.

“We guarded Jokic one-on-one and kept everyone else under control,” he said. “The focus there was on taking others out and in that respect it worked well.”

Nuggets vs Rockets  is scheduled for Friday, November 24 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The game starts at 8:00 pm. EST and will be broadcast on Space City Home Network in Houston and Altitude in Denver. Moneyline: Nuggets (-175) vs. Rockets (150) Spread: Nuggets -4 (-110) vs. Rockets 4 (-110) Total (O/U): Nuggets -110 (o213) vs. Rockets -110 (u213)

The Denver Nuggets are having a rough week, losing three of their last four games. The Nuggets, especially Nikola Jokic, are finally feeling the absence of Jamal Murray. They are in third place in the Western Conference with a 10–5 record.

Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets snapped a three-game losing streak after an easy 111-91 win against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Rockets are much better this season with a 7-6 record, good for eighth place in the West.

Box score

The Denver Nuggets vs. Houston Rockets had a strange first half on Friday night. Denver looked really bad on both ends, ending the half 60-43, but their superstar center Nikola Jokic had a historic first half.

According to Basketball Reference’s Stathead, Jokic finished the first half with 25 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists, the most from that line in the first half of a game since the NBA began tracking such data in 1996. Became the first player to post better than that. Only Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis have posted at least 25 points and 13 rebounds in the first half since the NBA began such tracking, but neither of them had three assists.

While it was a special half on offense from Jokic, it wasn’t even enough to get his team closer to Houston, as no one on the Nuggets was able to go much further. Jokic led almost all of Denver’s offense, scoring 25 of his 43 first-half points. While the reigning Finals MVP is capable of carrying the offensive load like him, he needs his teammates to step up, especially in the absence of Jamal Murray.

The Nuggets vs Rockets are just 4-4 since the loss of Murray, and are in danger of losing another game against a tough Rockets team on Friday night. While wins may have been easy for Houston in seasons past, that’s clearly not the case anymore.
