On a seismic day for the club off the pitch, Chelsea powered their business as close as possible to claim a 3-1 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Thursda.

Trevoh Chaloba and Mason Mount scored the opening goals for Chelsea before Norwich threatened a comeback when Teemu Pukki found the net with a second-half penalty. However, Kai Havertz calmed Chelsea’s nerves in the 90th minute with a brilliant performance.

Chelsea are back in Premier League action this evening, but football once again feels like a sub-plot after Roman Abramovich was cleared by the UK government over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In the sanctions announced this morning, Abramovich’s assets have been seen frozen because of ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mason Mount scored a total of six goals and assists against Norwich this season.

He is only the third Chelsea layer to have contributed so many goals against a team in a single season.

I don’t know what’s going to come tomorrow’

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Tuchel spoke about the current situation at Chelsea and said:

“Let’s see if it stays like this. If it does, I don’t know. We take it day by day. I didn’t see yesterday and I don’t know what’s coming tomorrow.”

“Everyone can be very confident that we focus on us, on the training field and within the team to keep the attitude and mindset right.

“So far we can count on each other and that won’t change. As long as we have enough shirts and buses for the Games, we’ll be there and compete hard.”

Odds

Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta are both doubtful going into the Blues’ clash with Norwich, but Andreas Christensen could start after returning to the bench against Burnley.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are third in the table and 10 points behind second-placed Liverpool.

The London club are unbeaten in their last 18 Premier League matches against Norwich and will be confident of extending that lead given the pathetic form of the hosts.

They have lost their last four matches and have lost at least two of their last four in the English top flight.

Dean Smith’s team lost 3-1 to Brentford over the weekend and got even tougher on Thursday evening.

Head-to-Head

Norwich vs Chelsea

Chelsea will be looking to continue their impressive Premier League form in their clash with Norwich tonight.

The game has been moved as a result of Thomas Tuchel’s side reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they will meet championship outfit Middlesbrough next weekend.

The impending sale of the club by Roman Abramovich after nearly 20 years is likely to be a massive distraction for Chelsea, but they managed to put those issues aside as they beat Burnley 4-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday.
