Lyles broke a record that had stood for 26 years. 7:14 a.m. Alexandria City High School grad Noah Lyles set a new American record in the men’s 200m.

Lyles broke the 26-year-old record by .01 seconds when he won the men’s 200-meter final the 2002 World Athletic Championships Thursday in Eugene, Oregon.

His parents Keisha Caine and Kevin Lyles competed in track and field at Seton Hall University. He attended T. C. Williams High School (now Alexandria City High School) in Alexandria, Virginia.
