Pearson, 58, will isolate for 10 days and the club said he has not had any “sustained close contact with the playing squad” since Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home against Fulham. Assistant manager Curtis Fleming will take charge of the Robins’ Championship matches at Millwall and Peterborough on Wednesday and Saturday respectively.

Statement

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has returned to work this week having been unable to take charge of first-team affairs for the two matches prior to the international break. Nigel Pearson has thanked Bristol City for their support during his recovery with the Robins manager making his first public statement since contracting Covid-19 for a second time.

Pearson had been absent from first-team affairs since after the Fulham game on September 25 having recorded a positive test in the wake of the 1-1 draw and assistant manager Curtis Fleming subsequently admitted the former Leicester and Watford boss was feeling “rough” and “not great”.

Return

Manager discusses being halted by Watford security guards, riding horses and what football needs to do now. “I joined Watford with a very clear understanding that what might happen might not be clear,” says Nigel Pearson, recalling the emotions that followed his surprise sacking in July, having hauled them three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone with two games to play.

The club confirmed his departure in a pithy 49-word statement. “I don’t expect people to write me a wonderful epitaph but I thought it was very disrespectful. Having said that, I moved on very quickly. It’s not scarred me.”

Salary

Pearson is looking for a deal worth around £3million a year which is a huge hike on what he was earning in the Championship. The experienced boss earned around £750,000-a-year plus bonuses in the second tier, so he is seeking a major rise in the big time.
