There was no controversy in the Alabama locker room when the soccer program accepted an invitation to attend the White House on Tuesday to celebrate the 2017 national title.

While teams like the Golden State Warriors didn’t make that trip, Alabama offensive lineman Ross Piersbacher recalled meeting the team with Nick Saban on the Washington Tour.

“Coach Saban addressed it and said, ‘Hey, we’re doing this regardless of your political views. We’re leaving, just to celebrate this team. It’s an honor. And just saying that To be able that you’re gone to the White House is something you can always cherish.’ So that was basically the limit of that.”

Jackson State coach Deion Sanders said on Wednesday night that he would like to have a public conversation with the Alabama coach on Wednesday night to address Nick Saban’s comments about his schedule.

“I haven’t spoken to Coach Saban,” Sanders told Endscape, the ESPN-owned website formerly known as The Undefeated. “I’m sure he tried to call. We need to talk publicly – not privately. What you said was public. It doesn’t require conversation. Let’s talk publicly and Let everyone listen to the conversation.

“You can’t do that in public and call out in private. No no no no.”

Sanders also issued a warning to coaches who want to bring to light the subject of paid players.

“I don’t even wear a watch and I know what time it is,” he said. “They forget I know who’s bringing the bag and dropping it. I know this stuff. I’m not the one you want to play with when it comes to all these things.”
