Nicholas Ritchie (born December 5, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing for Oulun Karpat in the Finnish Liiga. Former NHL forward Nick Ritchie has been suspended for eight games by Finland’s Liiga for an on-ice incident.
Ritchie, 28, playing for Olun Karpat, was given a five-minute major and a match penalty on Wednesday for a series of gloved punches to the head of TPS player Marcus Nurmiya.
A league disciplinary committee found that Ritchie was “guilty of unilateral, deliberate and non-spontaneous violence” and he was suspended under Rule 46.4, which prohibits punching a defenseless opponent or one who did not want to fight.
A native of Orangeville, Ontario, Ritchie is in his first season in the league. In 10 games with Carpet, the winger has one goal and four assists.
