In singles, Kyrgios’ career-high ATP singles ranking of world number 13 was achieved on 24 October 2016. Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios crossed paths during training at Wimbledon on Saturday and the pair exchanged a few words.

The Serb was practicing when the Australian was passing, prompting Djokovic to say:

“It took you five years to say something nice about me.”
Kyrgios responded in the best way, saying that he defended it when it mattered.

Kyrgios said, “I defended you when it mattered.”
The 27-year-old was referring to the time when Djokovic was deported from Australia ahead of the Australian Open earlier this year.

In an Instagram post in February this year, Kyrgios called the time “one of my darkest periods”, citing depression and drug and alcohol abuse, writing: “I am lonely, sad, negative, alcohol Was abusing drugs, turned family friends away.”

Kyrgios said he saw three or four different psychologists and sought professional help but it was not turning away his friends and family that helped him the most.
