Nick Gates: Giants
Nick Gates, a Giants offensive lineman, suffered a left leg fracture in the first quarter of his team’s game against Washington on Thursday night.
Gates was injured after collapsing while pass blocking. Because the injury was so gruesome, NFL Network refused to show a replay of it.
Before being carted off to the locker room, Gates’ left leg was placed in an air cast. At times, the veteran smiled and waved to fans who were cheering him on.
Nick Gates: Injury
Nick Gates of the New York Giants suffered a horrific leg injury Thursday night… so bad that he later said he “snapped that s*** in half.”
The offensive lineman, who had recently been named a Giants captain for the season, was attempting to block for Daniel Jones in the first quarter of New York’s loss to Washington when his leg was rolled up from behind.
A WFT defender landed right on the back of his leg, causing it to completely break, according to video of the play.
Because the injury was so severe, the NFL Network did not show a replay of the play.
Nick Gates: Draft
Gates is a Las Vegas native who chose Nebraska over other FBS programmes to sign him as a four-star recruit from Bishop Gorman High School.
As a redshirt freshman in 2015, he started all ten games for the Huskers, missing three due to a high ankle sprain. In 2016, Gates was named honourable mention All-Big Ten for his performance as a 13-game starter at left tackle.
Nick Gates: PFF
The New York Giants took a risk by starting Nick Gates at centre, despite the fact that he had never played the position before. Not in college at Nebraska, and not since joining the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2018.
Gates had been used at guard and tackle, and the coaching staff figured he’d be versatile enough to handle the position.
Nick Gates: AEW
As a freshman, he went 22-14…he had seven falls and four major decisions…he finished sixth at the Trine Invitational, third at the Indiana Little State Championships, seventh at the Spartan Mat Classic.
Second at the Greyhound Open, and fourth at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships…he was named SAC Wrestler of the Week (2/12/2020)… Academic All-SAC Team selection.
Nick Gates: Nebraska
Will Hernandez has more than twice as many NFL games as Gates, but it is the 25-year-old Gates who is the line’s foundation as Hernandez switches to right guard and bids to keep his starting spot.
In a rushed off-season, I had my reservations about Gates’ ability to shift to centre. The centre position is mentally tough, necessitates a low centre of gravity (Gates is 6’5), and is very different from playing tackle out on an island.
