Nicholas Edward Foles (born January 20, 1989) is an American football quarterback for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football in Arizona and was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Beginning his career as a backup, Foles was named the team’s starter in the middle of his rookie season. He maintained his starting position during the 2013 season, where he set the NFL season record for best TD-INT ratio and posted a perfect passer rating in a game. His success propelled the Eagles to the NFC East Division title, while also earning them Pro Bowl honors. However, an unsuccessful 2014 campaign resulted in Foles being traded to the St. Louis Rams, where he was released after struggling for one of his seasons. He spent his next season as a backup for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Why is starting for the bears
The Chicago Bears are turning to veteran Nick Foles, who will debut as quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks due to injuries to starter Justin Fields and backup Andy Dalton.
Fields is battling an ankle injury that kept him out of practice on Thursday and Friday, and he officially has a game-time decision this Sunday as Falls’ backup. If Fields can’t go, the Bears will turn to practice-squad quarterback Ryan Willis to support Foles.
Sunday’s game will mark Foles’ first start in nearly a year. His last start came in Week 10 of the 2020 season, losing to the Minnesota Vikings. Last season, Foles started 2-5 for Chicago last season.
As you can imagine, Bears fans are not handling the news well, with many contemplating their decision to tune in for Sunday’s game and others counting down the days until the end of the season.

As if the Seahawks didn’t already have an uphill task to prepare for the Bears on Sunday — after playing Tuesday night’s game on the road against the Rams — Chicago surprisingly announced Friday that it would be playing quarterback. Veteran Nick Foles will start.
Before Friday, rookie Justin Fields was expected to start, or if he could not, veteran Andy Dalton would start after being activated from the COVID-19 reserve list.
But Fields was listed as a suspect Friday with an ankle injury, and Dalton was ruled out with arm and groin injuries.
Fields suffered an ankle injury on Monday against Minnesota, but played every snap and said on Wednesday he expected to play this week.
But on Thursday he did not practice. Dalton was listed as a full participant on Thursday.
Fields, the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, has started 10 games this year, including the last two, and Dalton has started the other four.
