The National Hockey League (NHL; French: Ligue nationale de hockey—LNH, French pronunciation) is a professional ice hockey league in North America consisting of 32 teams—25 in the United States and 7 in Canada. It is considered the world’s premier professional ice hockey league, and one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. The Stanley Cup is the oldest professional sports trophy in North America, awarded annually to the league playoff champions at the end of each season. The NHL is the fifth richest professional sports league in the world by revenue, after the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the English Premier League (EPL).

The calendar has flipped from April to May, meaning the NHL switched from the regular season to the playoffs.

2 May marks the start of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. After two seasons of wonky playoff formats, the NHL returns to its original form with its distinctive style used before 2020.

The action begins with four series of competitions on Monday, then the next four on Tuesday. It would rotate with the same four series played every other day.

ESPN and TNT are the home of the 2022 NHL Playoffs. Both networks will broadcast the first three rounds of the series before the finals take place entirely on ESPN.

Here’s a look at the playoff bracket and schedule for the NHL postseason.
