The bell will ring in the eastern afternoon, the market will open and the dollar will fly away. Teams will be rebuilt – some fan bases will rejoice at what will unfold, and others will be disappointed and worried about next season. And don’t forget, trades can happen too. There are lots of candidates out there.

When Jack Campbell is on, he is on. But when is it closed? look outside. Last season was Campbell’s first as a starter and it was a roller coaster full of inconsistent games. At the beginning of the year, he seemed to be of vaginal caliber. Near the middle he looked like a missed fodder. In the end, he was somewhere in the middle and that’s what Edmonton can reasonably expect here. Disorder.

The big question is whether Campbell can be a legitimate and reliable starter. He is estimated to be the 23rd best goalkeeper in hockey which places him in that range – but on the below-average side. At this price and duration, oilers should expect something else. He may have settled into a quieter spot after getting his feet wet last season, but it’s a bit risky at Edmonton’s end. The fit is strong as the Oilers badly needed a starter, but this contract could be dicey. Campbell aged 35 and it’s hard to see him worth the price tag at that point in his career.

Fit Grade: B
Contract Grade: C

The Stanley Cup was pushed out for the 2021–22 season after the Avalanche defeated the Lightning to be crowned the 2022 champions. Now it is officially on the off season, as teams begin to retreat in hopes of taking the AVS place at the top of the NHL mountain.

While the NHL Draft is over, free agency is the next order of business for the HHL off-season. It’s an opportunity for players to cash in after a career year, find a new contender to call home, or simply get the next guaranteed contract.

Teams are busy re-signing players even before they hit the market, while others are waiting for free agency to officially begin looking for new ones. As always, it must be a crazy few weeks in the NHL.
