The Stanley Cup Finals are set to begin and the Stanley Cup odds are set as the Colorado Avalanche prepares to host the Tampa Bay Lightning for Game 1 of this year’s championship round in the NHL playoffs. The Avalanche began with a first-round sweep against the Nashville Predators, maintaining their status as Stanley Cup favorites through the playoffs. He then won six games against the St. Louis Blues to eventually record another sweep in the Western Conference Finals against the Edmonton Oilers.

The Lightning began their playoff run with a seven-game series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, one of which they were virtually underdogs, despite the amount of playoff success they have had in recent years. They were the underdogs against the Florida Panthers in Round 2, but they won that series as well, taking care of business in just four games. The Lightning then left the New York Rangers in the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals, but returned with four straight wins to earn another trip to the Stanley Cup. They are underdogs again for the third time in four rounds, as the Avalanche favorites with the odds set at -175.

The other notable market for the Stanley Cup is the Conn Smith Trophy, which is awarded each year to the most valuable player in the NHL playoffs. The top two favorites are both Avalanche players, with Black Makar on 180 and Nathan McKinnon on 210, while Nikita Kucherov and Andrei Vasilevki are up for the Lightning with similar odds on 400. Capricorn appears to be a deserving favorite at the top as he leads the avalanche with 22 points so far, an especially impressive feat considering he takes his scoring from the blue line. Capricorn is arguably the best defender in the NHL and this is certainly a series that has a lot of star power to go around.

The Stanley Cup playoff is one of the most exciting formats in the post-game. For the first time in three years, each team played an 82-game regular season schedule without interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Divisions were completely normalized with teams being allowed to cross the border and play in Canada and vice versa.

The Stanley Cup Final is now set. The two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning will take on the Colorado Avalanche in what will be an excellent matchup between two of the top NHL teams.

The structure of the playoffs leading to the final was as follows:

  • The team with the most points over the second wild card team in the opening round in each conference in the playoff format. The division winner with the second most points will face the top wild card team.
  • Each series will be in a best-of-seven format.
  • In the first two rounds of the playoffs, the higher seeded team has the advantage of home ice. The team with the most regular season points has home ice in the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals.
