The National Hockey League (NHL; French: Ligue nationale de hockey—LNH, French pronunciation: [liɡ nasjɔnal də kɛ]) is a professional ice hockey league in North America consisting of 32 teams—25 in the United States and 7 in Canada. It is considered the top professional ice hockey league in the world, and is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. The Stanley Cup is the oldest professional sports trophy in North America, awarded annually to the league playoff champions at the end of each season. The NHL is the fifth richest professional sports league in the world by revenue, after the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the English Premier League (EPL).

Awards 2022
We are still a few weeks away from being handed the Stanley Cup, although the NHL will be giving away several trophies starting this week.
Awards season begins in the NHL on Wednesday as the league announces the winners of its honors for the 2021-22 season.
Seven winners will be nominated, over a day, with the conference finals starting on June 1, leading up to the big, one-hour special that will take place on June 21 with the announcement of the five major prize winners.
The finalists for most of the awards have already been named. While some awards like the Vezina Trophy seem pretty clear to whom the hardware will be awarded, there are others like the Hart Trophy which are going to be a hot topic for unveiling.
Divisions
Each team will play a 56-game schedule during the regular season and only face teams in their division, starting on January 13, 2021, after the NHL and the NHL Players Association announced their approval of the plan on Sunday.
The top four teams in each division will qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs when each round is a best-of-7.
The actual divisions of the NHL for the 2020-21 season
The Boston Bruins, Buffalo Cebres, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals will play in the East Division.
“It gets like playoff hockey sometimes,” said Flyers coach Alain Vignot. “You’ll be playing back-to-back against the same team, whether it’s in your building or on the road. It’s going to be a little different, but at the end of the day you’re trying to win the game so you can get to the playoffs.” and get the opportunity to compete for the Stanley Cup.”
The Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning will compete in the Central Division.
The Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, St. Louis Blues and Vegas Golden Knights will be in the West Division.

Mock draft
While the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft is full of unpredictability, there appears to be some consensus on the top of the draft.
NHL.com writers Adam Kimmelman and Mike G. Morale agrees on how the first six picks could go, starting with the Montreal Canadiens selecting Shane Wright from the Ontario Hockey League’s No. 1 pick from Kingston.
But their opinions vary widely, starting with the selection of the Ottawa senators and No.
The first round of the 2022 draft will be held on July 7 at the Bell Center in Montreal. Round 2-7 will be July 8.
Lines
The 2022 NHL season will begin in October and with COVID-19 in the rearview mirror of the NHL, the league will return to its original division and conference structure. The Eastern Conference would consist of the Atlantic and Metropolitan Divisions and the Western Conference would consist of the Pacific and Central Divisions. With the Seattle Kraken joining the league as the 32nd team, they would join the Pacific Division in the Western Conference.
