With one NFL game left in September this Thursday night (Jaguars-Bengal), let’s say my NFL picks had a bad month.

After three weeks of stumbling, it’s time to pick it up. I went 7-9 against the spread last week, dropping my season record to 22-24-2, while my 10-6 straight record brought my season mark to 26-22.

Last week I actually had a chance to place the best bets on the Pick Six podcast. I went 2-4 to drop my season record to 10-9. That, quite simply, is not enough. How did the Vikings-Seahawks game not end?

Now that October has arrived, it’s time to push it forward. The goal for Halloween is to be above .500 with my best bets and against the spread overall.

But here the numbers are huge. They win, but it’s close.

The Jets have major issues on offense right now, but the Titans have defensive issues. So is this the game Zach Wilson is running? I do not think so. The Titans will go to New York and win their third straight 3-1 lead as Derrick Henry runs wild.

Spreads week 4

The third week of the 2021 NFL season once again belonged to the underdogs. The underdogs went 9-7 against the spread for the second week in a row and improved their record in the year to 30-18, a cover percentage of 62.5.

That said, as the year progresses, that trend will end further and remain around .500. Bookmakers and bookmakers are learning a lot about each team and as they collect more data, it becomes easier to find undervalued lines and pick sleepers against the spread.
