The NFL playoffs kicked off Saturday with a blowout and a game putting “Wild” in Super Wild Card Weekend.

This year’s playoff opener was held in Cincinnati, where the Bengals ended the NFL’s longest playoff drought with a 26–19 victory over the Raiders. The win was Cincinnati’s first postseason victory since January 1991. The Bengals’ victory was a nail-biter that was not achieved until Jermaine Pratt left Derek Carr on the fourth down play from Cincinnati’s nine-yard line with only 12 seconds to play.

With the end of the NFL’s inaugural Week 18, it’s time to start the playoffs.

The road after the season in Week 18 was wild. The Colts, who were widely expected to earn one of the two wild card berths yet to be achieved, lost to the Jaguars. Opening the door for the Steelers to make it after their win over the Ravens took them out of the AFC playoff picture. Unless the Chargers and Raiders tie on “Sunday Night Football”, the Steelers will move into the post season, which is considered to be Ben Roethlisberger’s final season.

On the NFC side of the bracket, it looked like the Saints alone would quickly grab the remaining NFC spot. However, the 49ers bounced back from a 17–0 loss against Rams in the second half to win 27–24 in overtime. The 49ers would seed their win at No. 6 while the Rams fell to No. 4, but still won the NFC West in a 38-30 loss to the Seahawks of the Cardinals.

Wild-card games will begin on Saturday, January 15, with 12 teams competing over three days. Two teams, the Packers and Titans, earned first-round byes and would not compete until the Divisional Tours the following weekend.
