On paper, week 12 of the NFL football season is one of the best of the season.
There are seven matchups that involve teams with a .500 or better record, and those games will go a long way in clearing the pecking order in playoff races in both the AFC and NFC.
Two AFC North matchups come into focus. It is the only division where each team has a winning record.
Pittsburgh travels to Cincinnati, and Cleveland travels to Baltimore. Will the Bengals overtake the Steelers and take the next step toward a playoff berth with second-year quarterback Joe Burrows? Will Lamar Jackson return and help the Ravens gain more distance from the rest of the division?
Injury report week 12
The Titans have seven starters that have either been ruled out or are questionable to play on Sunday. The injuries are mounting for the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and the biggest name on their injury report this week has to be Brown, who has been ruled out with a chest injury. He didn’t practice all week, and his absence will be amplified with Julio Jones still on IR. This Titans team lost to the Jets earlier this season when they were without Brown and Jones, and now Ryan Tannehill doesn’t have Derrick Henry to work off of.
The Patriots have a total of nine players who are listed as questionable, but all nine were at least limited participants in practice on Friday. New England is in the midst of a win streak in large part due to their ground game, and it’s notable that both Harris and Stevenson are dealing with injuries. The same goes for the tight end position, as both Henry and Smith were limited participants in practice all week with neck and shoulder injuries respectively.

Our N.F.L. playoffs calculator has an up-to-date look at the latest playoff picture.
The surprising upsets among the N.F.L.’s elite continue, making it hard to decipher which teams are actually good. The parity has decimated our record against the spread and has vaulted under-the-radar teams into the playoff conversation. The Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings are on unlikely winning streaks, and each has a real chance at a wild-card spot pending the outcome of this weekend’s games.
In the meantime, teams that sat atop their divisions mere weeks ago can no longer assume home-field advantages for the playoffs.
The drama continues this week with a potential N.F.C. Championship preview between the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers, an important A.F.C. North game between the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, and a matchup of two playoff dark horses, the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers.
